Quill Rush: the high-speed coastal race

Quill Rush is a high-speed coastal race for up to 16 players, played on the TV with everyone's phone as their controller.

A high-speed platform race down the coast from the Queensland border to Byron Bay: everyone races the same stage on their own phone, as Pip the porcupine or one of seven Aussie friends, and the whole pack races across the TV. Fastest time wins.

How to play

  1. Turn your phone sideways

Your phone is your controller and your screen. Hold ◀ or ▶ to run: it takes a moment to get going, then you fly. A jumps (you curl into a ball), ▼ rolls.

  2. Roll and rev

▼ while you’re running rolls you into a ball: faster down hills, and it knocks out Captain Cane Toad’s tin critters. Standing still, hold ▼ and tap A to rev up, then let go of ▼ to blast off.

  3. Loops and springs

Go fast enough and you run right round the loops. Springs and speed pads fling you along; the high paths are quicker but harder.

  4. Rings count

Every ring you carry home takes 0.1 seconds off your time. Get bumped and they spill out: grab some back quickly. Bumped with none and you go back to the last lifesaving flag.

  5. Eskies

Smash an esky to get what’s on its sticker: 10 rings, a Surf Bubble (one free bump), Zoom Thongs (faster for 15 s) or a Star (nothing can hurt you for 15 s).

How to win

The fastest time, with the rings taken off, wins the race. In Play world, everyone has to get home in time or the stage starts again.
