Privacy policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
The short version
- Players don't make accounts. A player's name, answers and score live only in the party and are gone soon after the party ends.
- Hosts make an account with an email address and a name.
- No ads and no advertising tracking. We count visits with Google Analytics (see "Analytics" below), without names, answers or party codes. We don't sell anyone's information.
- Voice answers, some spoken lines and (in Doodle Dash) pictures of the drawings go to OpenAI, so the games can hear, speak and guess. The recordings aren't kept.
Who we are
Game Shows ONLINE (gameshows.online, and the Game Shows ONLINE phone and TV apps) is run by DevPoint in Australia. In this policy, "we" means DevPoint. Questions or requests: hello@gameshows.online.
What we collect
Hosts (people with an account):
- Your email address, your name, and your password (stored only as a secure hash, never as the password itself).
- When you signed up, agreed to the terms, and when your free month ends.
- What you make: quizzes, questions, shows, and any pictures, music or videos you upload for them. The 4-digit host PIN of a show is stored encrypted.
- Your TVs: the name of each TV you link (like "SHIELD Android TV"), and when it was linked and last used.
Players (everyone who joins a party with a code):
- The name you type, your team, your answers and your score. These are kept in the party's memory only, not in our database. When nobody has been in a party for 30 minutes, the party closes and they're gone.
- If you answer by voice, the phone records you only while you hold the button. See "Voice and AI" below.
- Each player's picture: one of our cartoon characters, or a selfie if they choose to take one. A selfie is shrunk to a small square on the phone before it's sent, which also removes the hidden details in the photo (like where it was taken). It's kept only in the party's memory, never saved in our database or on disk, never sent to any other company and never written to our logs. It's deleted when the party closes, when the player picks a character instead, or when the host removes them or their selfie. The phone keeps its own copy so it can offer the same picture at the next party; "Leave room" doesn't delete it, but choosing a character does.
- We never ask players for an email address, age or location.
Opening soon sign-ups: if you lodge your interest before we open, we keep the name, email address and the optional answers you give (how you'll use it, your country) and when you sent them, and email them to our team, only so we can contact you about your free access. We delete them when you ask.
Everyone: like any website, our server sees your internet address (IP address) and browser type when you connect. We use the IP address briefly to stop abuse (for example, too many log-in tries), and don't save it in our database. Our server logs record events such as players joining a party, names and answers given in some games, and emails we've sent. We use these logs only to find and fix problems.
Voice and AI
Some games use OpenAI (a company in the United States) to hear and speak:
- Voice answers: the recording, plus the question it answers, is sent to OpenAI to turn it into text and check it. We don't save the recording.
- Checking answers: typed or spoken answers, with the question, are sent to OpenAI to judge them. Player names are not sent.
- Spoken lines: question text and game lines are turned into speech by OpenAI. Player names are not sent.
- AI quizzes and themes: the topic or theme a host types is sent to OpenAI to write questions.
- Drawings in Doodle Dash: while "Arnold and Lily guess" is on, a small picture of the drawing so far, with its category (such as "Animals"), is sent to OpenAI every few seconds so Arnold (the virtual host) and Lily (the virtual co-host) can guess it out loud. Player names are not sent. The host can turn it off in the game's setup. Guesses said out loud in Doodle Dash are turned into text by OpenAI, like other voice answers.
OpenAI handles this under its own terms for business customers, which say data sent through its API isn't used to train its models. OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days to check for abuse, then deletes it.
Other services we use
- Email: an email-sending service delivers our sign-up codes, welcome and password-reset emails, so it receives your email address and the message.
- YouTube: when a quiz plays a YouTube clip, the player comes from YouTube (Google), which may set its own cookies and see your IP address.
- Google Fonts: some host pages load fonts from Google, which sees your IP address when they load.
Some of these companies are outside Australia (mostly in the United States), so information sent to them leaves Australia.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (Google, in the United States) to count how many people visit and which pages and screens they use, so we know what to improve. It runs on gameshows.online and inside our phone and TV apps.
- What Google receives: the page or screen (with party codes, sign-in codes and private guest links taken out of the address), roughly where you are (the country or city, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics doesn't keep), your browser and device type, the site that sent you, and whether it's the website, the phone app or the TV app.
- What it never receives from us: player names, answers, scores, pictures, email addresses or anything you type.
- Google signals and ad personalisation are turned off, so it isn't used for advertising.
- It sets its own cookies (named
_ga) to tell a returning visitor from a new one. They last up to 2 years.
Opting out: install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, use your browser's tracking protection or a content blocker, or clear your cookies. The games work the same either way. Google's own policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Cookies and storage on your device
We use what makes the site work, plus Google Analytics' cookies (see "Analytics" above). No advertising cookies:
- A sign-in cookie for hosts (lasts 30 days from your last visit).
- A cookie on each linked TV, so it stays signed in (lasts 400 days from its last use).
- Your browser's own storage, to remember things like the party you joined and your player name, so you can rejoin after a dropped connection.
Who can see what
- Everyone in a party sees the players' names, pictures, teams and scores on the TV and phones.
- A player's selfie is shown from a long random web address that only works while they're in the party. The host can take any selfie down.
- If a host shares a quiz with the community, other hosts can see it and the host's name as its author.
- Pictures, music and videos uploaded for a quiz or show are stored under long random web addresses. Anyone who has the address can open the file, so don't upload anything private.
- We don't sell, rent or trade anyone's information, and we don't show ads.
Children
Players can be any age. That's why players don't make accounts: they only type a name, which can be a nickname. Host accounts are meant for adults: a parent, teacher or other grown-up who runs the games. If you think a child has made a host account, email us and we'll delete it. A selfie is always optional: every player can pick a cartoon character instead, and the host can take any selfie down.
How long we keep things
- Player names, pictures, answers and scores: until the party closes (30 minutes after everyone has left).
- A host's account and what they've made: until the host asks us to delete it.
- A linked TV: until the host removes it in My TVs, or after 400 days without use.
- Uploaded files that aren't used in any quiz or show: deleted after a day.
- Opening soon sign-ups: until you ask us to remove yours.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have your account and everything in it deleted. Email hello@gameshows.online from your account's email address and we'll do it within 30 days. You can remove a linked TV yourself at any time in My TVs.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, tell us first and we'll try to put it right. In Australia you can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and TV sign-in tokens are stored as hashes too. Our servers and database are run by us and aren't open to the public.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll tell hosts by email first.
