New Year's Eve party games
New Year's Eve has a long wait built in. Games on the TV fill it: everyone plays on their phone, the scores build all night, and the winner is crowned just before the countdown.
Whether you're at home with the kids, at a party with friends, or watching the fireworks over the beach later, here's a plan.
- Players
- From 2 to a room full; each game gives its own numbers
- You need
- A TV or screen with a web browser, and a phone for each player
- Set-up
- A couple of minutes: open the TV page, then everyone scans the QR code
- Price
- Players never pay. Basic costs nothing; the Trial is every game for a month or 5 plays (plans)
Games for New Year's Eve
A mix of game shows and party games that work for a room that keeps filling up.

Quiz
A quiz on the TV with phones as buzzers or answer pads. Choose a ready-made quiz, write your own or build one with AI.
- 1–30 players
- Depends on the quiz

Survey Showdown
Try to name the answers people gave in a survey. Popular answers score more. A good game for people who like talking and quick guesses.
- 2–30 players
- About 15–25 minutes

Imposter
Everyone gets the same secret word, except one player: the Imposter. Find them before they fool you!
- 3–16 players
- About 5–15 minutes
- Same room only

Doodle Dash
One player draws on their phone. Everyone else races to guess what it is. The TV shows every line as it is drawn.
- 2–30 players
- About 10 minutes

Mind Meter
Give a clue that helps your teammates find a hidden spot on a scale. For teams who like talking about what words mean.
- 4–30 players
- About 10–20 minutes
- Needs teams
- Same room only

Tick Tock Boom
A ticking bomb flies from phone to phone. Fast reactions keep you in the game.
- 2–30 players
- About 3–8 minutes
A running order to midnight
- 1
As people arrive
Put the game on the TV so guests can join with the QR code as they come in. A quick round of Tick Tock Boom breaks the ice.
- 2
The year in review quiz
Write a quiz about the year: your family's or friends' big moments, photos and in-jokes. Or have AI write one about the year's news.
- 3
Survey Showdown
Party against party, or the early-birds against the night owls.
- 4
Doodle Dash or Imposter
Something loud while the snacks come round.
- 5
The final, about 11:30
One last game for the title, the winner crowned, then everyone outside for the countdown.
Put it in a show
A show plays your games and quizzes one after another, with music and our hosts, Arnold (the virtual host) and Lily (the virtual co-host). Set it up in the afternoon and start it when the party gets going.
Tips for New Year's Eve
- With kids: run the games early and have your own "midnight" at 9 o'clock, then send them to bed happy.
- Keep score all night. Play in teams and the TV adds up each team's points, so the last game decides it.
- Make resolutions a game. Everyone writes one on a card, then the host reads them out and everyone guesses whose it is.
- More ideas: party games for adults and how to host a game show night.
